Uladz Labkovich: We are no longer heroes, heroes are currently in prisons
Released political prisoners arrived in Vilnius. Human rights activist Uladz Labkovich briefly spoke with journalists.
First of all, he thanked those who participated in the release of political prisoners, especially the Ukrainian side.
«We are all in a very, very emotional state. I want to say a big thank you to everyone. Thank you for this operation being carried out. Believe me, it was at a very high professional and organizational level.
In particular, I want to extend a big thank you first and foremost to the Ukrainian GUR, which undertook this operation and carried it out in extremely difficult conditions.»
He says that literally every two hours, while in Ukraine, they had to go down to bomb shelters.
«Because Ukraine is truly at war, fighting every minute. And the fact that they carried out such a humanitarian mission is extremely important,» he said.
When asked about his well-being, he said he feels good for now.
And he said that he would not answer questions about what happened in Belarus —«only in general terms».
«Because I believe we have a very important moral obligation. We are no longer heroes. Heroes are currently behind bars, heroes are currently in prisons. Today, heroes are going to punitive isolation cells (SHIZO), because today is a working day, and in the afternoon, commissions of correctional institutions will be working, after which people will be sent to SHIZO.
Therefore, it is very, very important for us that they return home as soon as possible. And that is why I will also be responsible for every word I say,» he explained.
