Professor Vasil Bernik Passed Away
The Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences passed away on January 11, his friends reported.
Vasil Bernik was born on January 9, 1947, in Slabada-Pyryshavskaya, Uzda District.
He graduated from BSU (1970). He worked at the Institute of Mathematics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, was a Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, and a professor.
He was the author of scientific works on number theory. He developed a new method for estimating the Hausdorff dimension of sets of real and complex numbers with a given measure of transcendence.
Vasil Bernik was the chief editor of the first Belarusian-language "Mathematical Encyclopedia" (2001), a member of the Council of Founders of the Public Scientific and Analytical Center "Belarusian Perspective", and a member of the Republican Terminology Commission at the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
