Prime Minister Meets with Iraqi Businesspeople

Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Miasnikovich held a meeting with a delegation of Iraqi business executives in Minsk on Tuesday, May 15, to discuss trade and investments.

The meeting was attended, by among others, the heads of Iraqi companies Investments and Technologies and City Telecom Mobile.

Under discussion were deliveries of Belarusian farm produce and machinery to Iraq and investments in the spheres of telecommunications, construction and industry, as well as the establishment of assembly plants by Belarusian manufacturers in the Middle East country, said the press office of the Belarusian Council of Ministers.

The businesspeople were presented with a list of projects in Belarus that could attract Iraqi investments.

In addition, the meeting focused on the training of Iraqi students at Belarusian schools of higher learning and the development of bilateral cooperation in the sphere of telecommunications.

Under discussion also were preparations for visits to Belarus by the Iraqi ministers of higher education and scientific research, of communications and of water resources, according to the press office.

An agreement was reached that a Belarusian-Iraqi intergovernmental commission for trade and economic cooperation would hold a meeting “in the near future.”

The possibility of Mr. Miasnikovich's visit to Iraq and a visit by his Iraqi counterpart to Belarus was also raised at the meeting.
