BPF Chairperson: Boycott Is Worst Possible Move
Belarusian opposition party calls boycotting the “dead end.”
The Belarusian People's Front — a Belarusian opposition party — was holding its summit on June 23. The upcoming parliamentary elections were on the agenda.
The BPF party, in spite of many opposition leaders urging to boycott the elections, decided to partake.
“Boycotting is the worst possible tactics for the current situation. To boycott or to incline to boycotting is stop the political activity until the end of the election campaign,” said the Chairperson of the BPF Aliaksiej Janukievich.
“We see no sense [in it] and consider the period to be the good time to work with people, to use additional possibilities.
“We did not have the opportunity to boycott and it seems that boycotting is the dead end.”
The party has also discussed the elections evaluation indicators. It was decided that the presence of political prisoners and access to the election commissions for the opposition observers are one of them.
