The director of the Minsk-based United Institute of Informatics Problems confirmed on Monday that Belarus and China are in talks over the possible establishment of a joint supercomputer cluster in the Belarusian capital.

Aliaksandr Tuzikau said at a news conference that China's Inspur, one of the world's leading supercomputer companies, would be involved in the project. “It has created not only one of China's most powerful supercomputer centers but also a supercomputer based on its Chinese-made processor, which speaks volumes for the independence of Chinese technologies in the sphere,” he said.

Mr. Tuzikau said that the cluster would be established at Belarusian State University with the help of Chinese investments. The project may be launched in 2013.
