Belarusian environmental activists started a fundraising campaign titled “Save the Moose! Stop the Deadly Auction!” to save a moose which is to be sold by auction at expo “Hunting and Fishing. Autumn 2012.” The moose is to become someone’s hunting trophy.
The eco-activists of Green Network initiated the petition campaign on Change.org to cancel the auction. However, they do not rely on the online petition website, so it was decided to open a charitable account to buy out the moose.
The initial bid on killing the moose is Br6mln (ca. $700). However, the activists say the money will be useful even in case they lose the auction.
“We don’t forecast the prices to be sky-high. It is easier for hunters to buy a license somewhere else, but not at auction. The auction organisers hope more for attention than for large revenue. Unfortunatelly, we are very short of time. We plan to raise around Br10mln. In case we lose the auction or it is cancelled, the money will be spent on food for animal shelters or animal food.”
