Ex-Presidential Candidate Alies Mikhalievich Held at JFK Airport for 13 Hours

Former presidential candidate Alies Mikhalievich was held by US customs officers in the JFK Airport in New York, NY. A customs service officers detained Mr. Mikhalievich for additional questioning.

Alies Mikhalievich arrived in New York to partake in an UN Human Rights Council meeting.

Alies Mikhalievich was captured after presidential elections in December 2010. After he was released, he publically told about the tortures in the KGB prison to enlist him.

Alies Mikhalievich had to surreptitiously flee the country and was sheltered in the Czech Republic.

The KGB internationally requested return of Mr. Mikhalievich as wanted person and Alies Mikhalievich has some issues while crossing borders since then. Yet, after an ID check he is always released.

This time customs security officers held Mr. Mikhalievich for 12 hours. “I had an experience of wearing American handcuffs and being searched. Washington Interpol headquarters hasn’t removed me from the list [of wanted persons] yet,” the politician wrote on his Facebook page.
