€22,700 Seized from Russian as He Fails to Declare Cash

As much as €22,700 was seized from a citizen of Russia on Tuesday when he attempted to smuggle the cash from Poland into Belarus by train.
The 54-year-old Russian failed to declare the cash at the Brest-Tsentralny checkpoint and tried to go through the Green Channel, Brest customs report.
However, a spot check of his personal belongings revealed a stash of €30,500.
Individuals are allowed to bring no more than $10,000 into the Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia without filling out a customs declaration form. The amount in excess of the legal limit was seized from the Russian pending an inquiry.
