The traditional commemoration rally Dziady was held on October 28 in Minsk. Each October people march to Kurapaty, the tract on the Outskirts of Minsk, where thousands of Belarusians were shot dead at the times of Stalin’s repressions.

The march was organized by the Conservative Christian Party (CCP) and sanctioned by the Minsk city and district authorities.

This year the people also protested against the building of entertainment centre Bulbash-Hall which is being built right next to the mass graves.

The commemoration rally of the people executed in Losyca which was another place of mass executions by the NKVD is going to be held on November 4.

Dziady was a bank holiday during the first years of Belarus’ independence and was celebrated on November 2. However, Aliaksandr Lukashenka cancelled it. Now the commemoration march to Kurapaty is held on the last Sunday of October.
