China will grant 100 million yuan (some $16 million) to Belarus for the government’s program aimed at minimizing the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear accident, Deputy Prime Minister Anatol Tozik told reporters in Minsk on Tuesday following a meeting of the Belarusian-Chinese Interstate Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation.
“We’ll think what interesting project should be financed with the grant,” Tozik said. “This should be a significant project.”
He noted that China donated about $11 million for Belarus’ Chernobyl program in 2011, and that the money was used for the construction of a dormitory for 500 Chinese and 500 Belarusian students.
