On the afternoon of February 28, rescuers were informed about people in the Svislach river near Nezalezhnosti Avenue. According to preliminary information, a man and a woman were paddleboarding on the river. They were not wearing life jackets, only dry-type wetsuits.

After losing their balance, both fell into the water. The woman proved stronger — she not only reached the shore herself but also managed to pull her companion onto it.

However, it was still impossible to save the man. Medics performed resuscitation measures, but eventually pronounced the person dead.

The causes of death and the circumstances of the incident are being investigated.
