A Second-Grader in Germany Applied for a Playground Inspector Vacancy. And They Almost Hired Him!

Seven-year-old Micha from the town of Sinsheim in southern Germany didn't hesitate for long when he learned that a playground inspector vacancy had opened in the city.

With his dad's help, he put together a resume with a cover letter, where he wrote that playgrounds, in his opinion, should not only be safe but also "well-tested," reports the Telegram channel "What's up with the Germans".

The boy also had a clear idea of what the duties of a playground inspector entailed, which he explained during the interview.

Micha also described his salary expectations: for checking slides and swings, he would like to receive 17-18 euros per hour.

When the Sinsheim administration saw the application from the second-grader, they immediately invited such an ambitious candidate for a trial assignment.

Micha, dressed in dirt-resistant trousers, rubber boots, and a reflective vest, demonstrated his "professionalism" at one of Sinsheim's playgrounds.

In the company of two adult specialists, he checked the monkey bars, slides, swings, and trampolines. Micha's verdict: the playground is in good condition. However, the boy was disappointed that inspectors do so little climbing and sliding.

The Sinsheim authorities noted the boy's career ambitions at such a young age.

"If someone at such a young age shows interest in working for the administration, we are happy to support it," said Mayor Marco Ziesing.

However, Micha has not yet received the inspector position — his main duty now is to go to school.

The boy himself believes that children are much better suited than adults for the job of inspector. "They don't even know what really brings fun to the playground," says Micha.
