Tunnels will go eight meters below Svislach — how the construction of the Zelenaluzhskaya metro line is progressing PHOTOS
Construction of a new section of the Zelenaluzhskaya metro line continues. In January 2026, specialists began engineering preparation of the territory near the Yubileinaya hotel, fencing off a section near the Svislach river. Alexander Chernikov, Deputy Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, told Minsk-Novosti about the current works.
On Pobediteley Ave. — from Melnikaite St. to Masherov Ave. — the number of traffic lanes has been reduced: from three to two in each direction.
— On this section, work is underway to strengthen the collector, next to which the tunnels of the third line will be laid. This is a necessary measure to ensure its load-bearing capacity and tightness and to eliminate the risk of accidents in the future, — explained Chernikov. — As for the Svislach, no one will drain it. A tunnel will indeed appear here, but the tunneling complex will simply pass six to eight meters deeper than the riverbed. This means that in those areas where it is necessary, the tunnel will have to be lowered below the riverbed zone, into dense and stable soil layers.
According to the Deputy Chairman of the Minsk City Executive Committee, the site near the Svislach river was fenced off for the installation of sheet piling, its purpose being to divide the riverbed into several sections.
The main water flow will be directed through a free corridor, while builders will engage in concrete preparation on one of the designated sections. After that, the water flow will be gradually transferred to the prepared section.
Specialists will successively move to the next stages of work until their full completion across the entire width of the riverbed. This concrete preparation is carried out to prevent sand drainage into the tunnel. This will not affect the river in any way. They plan to complete what has been started already in July.
The overall concept of the Zelenaluzhskaya metro line has been formed, however, changes may be introduced. To increase the pace of construction, a second mechanized tunneling complex and equipment for producing high-precision tunnel lining have been purchased. All this equipment is gradually being brought to Belarus. Its launch is planned in the next few months.
