An 8-year-old girl with a disability was denied entry into a Minsk cafe. They said her chair took up too much space.
Outraged by the treatment of seriously ill Katya Vinogradova at the Golden Coffee cafe, her mother Oksana shared the story on Instagram.
The family is from Kobrin. Eight-year-old Katya Vinogradova has a severe genetic disease – spinal muscular atrophy. They are currently trying to raise more than $1.8 million for the girl for the Zolgensma drug.
According to information on social networks, it all happened on Saturday. The campaign included Katya herself (the girl moves in a wheelchair) with her mother, volunteers, and Veronika Kasach, world and European champion in wheelchair sports dancing.
In the Dana Mall shopping center, which is hugely popular every year before the New Year due to its luxurious decorations, they decided to go to the Golden Coffee cafe for dessert.
But, according to Oksana Vinogradova, they did not want to let them into the cafe because Katya and Veronika were in wheelchairs. Golden Coffee employees said that the wheelchairs would interfere with the movement of other guests, as well as waiters.
After the cafe staff demanded the book of complaints and suggestions, they still allowed the company to take seats and place an order.
An indignant entry appeared on Oksana Vinogradova's Instagram: "And you say why my mother's hands are falling. Yes, because the world and people are evil, because you have to face such situations every day."
She asks Golden Coffee to reconsider its values and attitude towards children with disabilities.
So far, the management of Golden Coffee has not commented on the situation in any way, although many outraged people are tagging the cafe's account and demanding an answer.
But one of the volunteers who helps Katya and her mother wrote that the director of Golden Coffee had contacted her. She apologized and promised to call back later, when she reviews the recordings from the surveillance cameras.
