Earlier, Whitkoff announced a meeting in Geneva with the head of the Ukrainian negotiating group, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine Rustem Umerov. According to him, after talks in Geneva, Umerov may visit Florida, where the trilateral meeting of delegations from the US, Ukraine, and Russia will take place.
Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son-in-law, also plans to participate in the possible talks on the American side.
Trilateral meetings of representatives from Ukraine, the US, and Russia already took place in Geneva on February 17-18, where possible parameters for ending the war were discussed. Following these meetings, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that he saw certain progress in the military direction of the talks, but not in the political one.
According to media reports, political consultations in Geneva encountered difficulties due to the position of the head of the Russian delegation, Vladimir Medinsky. At the same time, Whitkoff stated that "good news" regarding the possibility of ending the Russian-Ukrainian war might emerge in the coming weeks, and did not rule out a meeting between the presidents of Ukraine and Russia, Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Vladimir Putin, in the near future.
