U.S. President Donald Trump made a series of strong statements regarding the military operation in Iran. In an interview with American media, he simultaneously boasted about the success of the bombings, which, according to him, "are ahead of schedule," and unexpectedly announced his agreement to begin direct negotiations with representatives of the Iranian regime.

In a phone conversation with CNBC, Donald Trump expressed complete satisfaction with the progress of the military operation.
"This is a very tough regime, one of the toughest in history," Trump said. "We are doing our job not only for ourselves but for the whole world. And everything is ahead of schedule." He added that "events are now developing very positively."
However, immediately after this, in a conversation with The Atlantic journalist Michael Scherer, the American leader announced a radical change in tactics.
"They want to talk, and I agreed to talk, so I will talk to them. They should have done this sooner. They dragged it out too long," Trump stated in a conversation from his Mar-a-Lago club.
At the same time, the U.S. president made it clear that the military strikes had inflicted serious damage on Iran's leadership. When the journalist clarified whether the same individuals as before would participate in the negotiations, Trump replied:
"Most of those people are no longer there. Some of the ones we were dealing with are gone because it was a big — it was a big hit," he said. "They should have done it sooner, Michael. They could have made a deal. They tried to play too smart."
When asked if American bombings would continue if a popular uprising against the regime began in Iran, Trump did not give a definite answer, maintaining intrigue.
"I will have to look at the situation at the moment it happens, Michael. This question cannot be answered in advance," he noted.
