In the Lyakhovichi district, Australian crayfish have been introduced at Belarus' first eco-farm for growing shrimp. The owner of the farm, Vladimir Gatovchits, brought over 1,500 fry and 15 adult individuals from Russia, writes Office.life.

At the eco-farm, two separate autonomous lines for Australian crayfish fry have been launched in parallel with the shrimp line. The conditions for keeping these two crustaceans are very similar in many respects.
Expanding the species will increase attractiveness for tourists and expertise in this area, as well as work out the process of growing crayfish untypical for Belarus for future production, noted Vladimir Gatovchits:
"We are refining technologies and learning to obtain larvae, and the goal is to have several types of crustaceans and, hopefully soon, 1-2 types of fish."
Further, according to him, there are plans to establish the production of their own feed. In the long term, this will become the basis of a large-scale self-sufficient production that will not depend on planting material and the feed base.
Businessman Vladimir Gatovchits launched the shrimp eco-farm in early 2025 in Olkhovtsy, in the building of a former school. For breeding, he brought Rosenberg shrimp from the Astrakhan region. As a result, the entrepreneur spent more than 1 million rubles on the launch and development of the project.
In August last year, he independently began breeding Belarusian shrimp from roe obtained under local conditions. And in October last year, excursions began to be conducted at the eco-farm. Now tourists come to Olkhovtsy almost every weekend.
Upon reaching full production capacity, the farmer expects to receive up to 300 kilograms of live shrimp per month.
