Fifth night of attacks: fire again breaks out in Ust-Luga port after drone attack

Russia's Leningrad region is under massive drone attacks for the fifth night in a row. On the night of March 29, another attack led to damage and a fire in the strategically important port of Ust-Luga.

According to the statement of the region's governor, Alexander Drozdenko, 31 drones were shot down by air defense forces. Despite reports of targets being destroyed, the head of the region confirmed the fact of damage on the port's territory. According to his preliminary information, there were no casualties, but a fire was recorded at the facility.

The consequences of the strikes are also felt by residents of Russia's northern capital. Already the day before, St. Petersburg was covered in a black haze. Residents of various districts of the city complain of strong smog and the smell of burning.

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations warned of a worsening environmental situation between March 28 and March 30.

Ust-Luga is the largest port in the Baltic Sea, through which Russian energy resources are exported. Systematic strikes on this hub over the past five days indicate a deliberate attempt to paralyze Russia's logistics and oil refining infrastructure in this direction.

Yesterday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that after Ukrainian forces' strikes on oil refineries in the Leningrad region, about 40% of capacities remained.
