Dzijanau's Girlfriend: They Threatened to Kidnap Me and Publish My Nude Photos

Opposition activist's girlfriend told about mistreating and blackmailing her.

The girlfriend of prominent anti-Lukashenka activist Viachaslau Dzijanau has accused the police and the Committee for State Security (KGB) of mistreatment and blackmail.

Marharyta Lavyshyk was arrested in Minsk on April 19, hours before she was to travel to Warsaw to be reunited with Mr. Dzijanau, a coordinator of an online anti-Lukashenka community called “The Revolution through Social Networks.”

In a video clip posted on the Internet, Ms. Lavyshyk spoke about what she had experienced during her one-day detention.

According to the young woman, she and her housemate, who was also arrested, were interrogated for eight hours. “The police officers threatened that we would be driven to a forest and shot to death there. They put me under very strong psychological pressure, threatened with a crackdown on my family and loved ones,” she said.

Ms. Lavyshyk revealed that she had been forced to read a statement written by the KGB in front of a camera. The statement contained “slanderous” information about Ms. Lavyshyk and her boyfriend. “I say that everything that I said in that video is untrue,” she said.

Upon her arrival in Warsaw days after the detention, Ms. Lavyshyk, who considers pursuing a career in modeling, was contacted by KGB officers who warned that they would make public her topless photographs unless she agreed to cooperate.

“They did not me break me, I did not sign any papers and any cooperation is out of the question,” Ms. Lavyshyk stressed.

Writing in his blog, Mr. Dzijanau said that the pictures had been taken during a photoshoot for a modeling agency. He even posted one of the pictures on the Internet, in an apparent attempt to stop the blackmail.

Earlier, Mr. Dzijanau denied his girlfriend's involvement in politics. “The Belarusian authorities target the loved ones of those whom they cannot reach to take revenge,” he said.
