Myanmar invites Belarus to participate in joint development of gold, copper and tin deposits, BelTA learn from the Belarusian government’s press office.
A Belarusian government delegation headed by Prime Minister Mikhail Miasnikovich visited Myanmar in December 2011, noted the press office. In compliance with the agreements concluded during the PM’s visit, a group of Belarusian specialists including those from Belgorkhimpram visited Myanmar on 28 February — 6 March to assess the mining and development prospects in the country.
“Taking into account the size of the deposits, enrichment and processing capabilities of particular raw materials on the basis of the data provided to Belarus the gold and copper deposits (Shangalon) and tin deposit (Dawei) have been selected for future possible follow-up exploration and development,” the press office said. The data from Myanmar are being examined now.
By 15 June the geology department of the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry of Belarus is to prepare and submit to the government a research note on the prospects of the follow-up geological exploration of the promising sites and the feasibility of commercial development of the deposits that can be discovered during geological exploration in Myanmar.
“Preliminary analysis shows that Myanmar is potentially rich in mineral resources,” the press office added. “Given the lack of reliable data on the proven fields the principal goal of Belarus-Myanmar cooperation in the area of deposits exploration is to organize geological surveying”. Only after acquiring the necessary data Belarus will be able to assess the practicability of joint Belarus-Myanmar commercial development of the deposits.
