The selection matches will be played in Denmark in 2013.
Belarus’ national ice hockey team came 14th at the 76th World Championship in Helsinki and Stockholm and dropped to the 13th place in the current world rankings and lost the right to host one of the three qualifying tournaments that are due to be held on 7–10 February 2013 by the countries ranked 10–12th.
Nine best-placed national ice hockey teams have already secured their places in Sochi 2014. Despite the fact that the World Championship is not over, their ranking positions will not change. These teams are Finland, Sweden, Russia, the Czech Republic, Canada, U.S., Norway, Slovakia and Switzerland.
In the final round of qualification 12 national teams divided into three groups will compete for three more places at Sochi Olympics.
Belarus’ ice hockey national team (13th in the world rankings) to play in group F against the home side (Denmark - 12th), Slovenia (18) and the winner of the pre-qualification tournament which is due to be played on 8-11 November 2012 between the teams of Hungary (19), the Netherlands (24), Lithuania (25) and the winner of the play-off round in which teams with even lower rankings will play.
