The Belarusian mechanical engineering company Belarusian Autoworks plc (BelAZ trademark) plans to roll out the world’s biggest dump truck with the carrying capacity of 450 tonnes in March 2013, BelAZ Chief Designer Aliaksandr Jahorau saids.
According to the source, the truck will have eight wheels, electromechanical alternating-current transmission and will pack any kinds of devices to automate driver’s work. “We plan to unveil the truck in March 2013,” said the Chief Designer.
Aliaksandr Jahorau said the company continues working on remote-control dump trucks to address the shortage of highly qualified mining vehicle drivers. One truck has been assembled and tested at the company’s testing field. “We managed to control it within a 500 meter range. However, we had to suspend work on this model. A second remote-control dump truck has been assembled and is now being tested in the experimental shop,” he said. For now BelAZ specialists can control it within an 800 meter range while real mining operations require ranges up to 10 km. The company will continue working on it to create a sample fit for production testing by the end of year.
BelAZ Acting Director General Uladzimir Vauchok said the production growth rate is good. In January-April 2012 OAO BelAZ output went up 58.3% in comparable prices while the figure for the entire manufacturing corporation reached 77.1%.
Founded in September 1948, the Zhodino-based mechanical engineering company Belarusian Autoworks (BelAZ) was incorporated into a joint-stock company in 2010. The company is part of the system of enterprises of the Ministry of Industry of Belarus. BelAZ offers rock haulers, frontal wheeled loaders and bulldozers, tow trucks, special vehicles for underground operations, heavy-duty trucks for metallurgy industry, and other specialized vehicles. BelAZ accounts for a third of the global market of rock haulers.
