A new national-level emergency management plan will be drawn up in Belarus by 2015 to address risks associated with the construction and operation of a nuclear power plant, Jakau Kenihsbierh, head of the National Commission on Radiation Protection under the Council of Ministers, told reporters in Minsk on Tuesday.
Belarus, which is building a nuclear power facility, has to bring the document into line with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)’s requirements, said the official, noting that two national laws also required the development of the new plan.
Mr. Kenihsbierh said that some requisite provisions had already been developed and adopted as separate standards and would now be incorporated into the new version of the document, citing sanitary requirements for the construction and operation of nuclear power facilities drawn up in 2010. The requirements also specify the public dose limit for exposure from nuclear plants, which is set at 0.1 mSv/yr, below the limit of one mSv/yr in place in most countries, said the official.
