Putin Comes to Discuss Privatization and Nuclear Power Plant

This was reported by the assistant to the President of Russia

Assistant to the President of Russia, Yuri Ushakov, said on May 30 that Vladimir Putin was going to discuss the entire spectrum of bilateral relations at a meeting with his Belarusian counterpart Aliaksandr Lukashenka in Minsk. According to him, a lot of attention will be attached to economic issues during the talks, while the whole meeting will be held in an informal atmosphere in a one-on-one format.

“Presidents briefly exchanged their views on May 15, when Lukashenka came to Moscow to participate in the informal summit of the CIS countries and the CSTO jubilee session. They were talking a lot, but now it will be the first tight contact. A lot of time will be allocated for an informal face to face conversation. I think that all the most sensitive issues will be addressed during this trip,” RIA "Novosti” quoted Yuri Ushakov.

The issues for consideration by the heads of state are as follow: privatization of Belarusian enterprises by Russian companies, providing Russia’s financial support to Belarus, creation of Rosbelavto holding based on merger of MAZ and KAMAZ, NPP construction work, interaction in the sphere of collective security, development of military and technical cooperation, foreign policy (not an easy situation in the Middle East and particularly in Syria, where a civil war is ongoing), humanitarian cooperation in the light of two anniversaries celebrated this year - the 300th anniversary of the victory in the war in 1812 and 1150th anniversary of birth of the Russian statehood.

The nuclear power plant construction in Belarus is also on the agenda of the talks.

“Discussions of various loans are constantly going on. I won’t go into details now. We [Belarus] had a very significant support last year. I do not exclude that this issue will be discussed. Some questions will be raised. We will respond and discuss,” Russian presidential aide said.

Moreover, Vladimir Putin and Aliaksandr Lukashenka plan to hold a meeting to discuss the Interstate Council of the Union State of Belarus and Russia as well as the establishment of the parliamentary institution of the Eurasian Economic Union.
