Swiss Trains to Be Prodoced in Belarus

€50 million investments are expected

Around €50 million will be invested in the project to start the production of Swiss commuter trains in Minsk Region at the initial stage, the Chairman of the Minsk Region Executive Committee Barys Batura told reporters.

The plant will be located in Minsk Free Economic Zone, near the town of Fanipal. An investment agreement has already been signed with the Stadler company.

The new facility is expected to manufacture 18 trains and 30 tramcars in 2012–2013, up to 30 trains, 30 tramcars and 500 trolley buses in 2014.

“There are plans to redeploy the production of tramcar and trolleybuses from Minsk to this site. Investment at the initial stage will amount to €50 million,” Barys Batura said.
