The countries are ready to use any leverages to release their citizens.
Russia in coordination with colleagues from Ukraine and Belarus will immediately make all necessary efforts “both in the legal framework and at the political level” for the speedy settlement of the problem and revision of the sentence upon the citizens of the three countries, passed by the Libyan court. This was stated by Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich on June 4.
According to him, Russia considers the court's decision as clearly biased, said the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“In Moscow, such an unfair and unwarranted harsh sentence was taken with perplexity and indignation. This decision is all the more puzzling and surprising given the intensive contacts with the Libyan authorities on this issue undertaken by the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Russian Embassy in Tripoli during the last months, as well as assurances of objectivity and impartiality of the court, given by the Libyan side,” said Alexander Lukashevich.
As it was previously reported, Belarusian, Russian and Ukrainian citizens were tried in Libya and found guilty of cooperation with the regime of Muammar Gaddafi. Three Belarusians were sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment each.
