The Chairperson of the National Bank of Belarus Nadzieja Jermakova believes that denomination is not desirable in the current situation with high inflation level and unrest in global markets. “Moreover, the bills still fit in our purses, while zeros - in calculators and computers’ displays,” she said.
“Not this year. So, most probably, it will be possible to talk about denomination in 2013.”
It should be understood, said the head of the National Bank that the preparation period for the denomination requires more than six months and large funding.
“So far we have taken a decision to gradually withdraw Br10 - and Br20 notes from circulation within one and a half years. We may soon decide to round prices up to Br50.”
