All the legal procedures must be accomplished first, Ukrainian president says.
The President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych could pardon the ex-PR Yulia Tymoshenko imprisoned for 7 years, but according to the Ukrainian law he can do this only after all courts approve this decision.
This was stated in the interview for The Time.
“Surely, I want to,” Mr. Yanukovych answered to the question if he wanted to pardon Yulia Tymoshenko.
“When the courts decide, together with the European Human Rights Court, I will have the right to pardon her.
And when the moment comes — there is the procedure. But now, when the court decision is not clear, I am not competent to do this,” said Mr. Yanukovych.
Yanukovich has repeatedly assured that pardoning Tymoshenko is the matter of legal procedures and Tymoshenko stated that she is not going to ask Yanukovych for the pardon.
