Open Belarusian economy is not protected against a recession, Mikhail Miasnikovich said.
Negative economic trends observed in Europe and China may have an impact on Belarus, the Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Miasnikovich told on Thursday.
Consumer demand in Europe and China is on the decline, said Mr. Miasnikovich. He also noted that he had discussed the matter at a meeting with his Kazakh and Russian counterparts in St. Petersburg on June 15.
“We are not protected against this as we have an open economy. But we will still be trying to meet our performance targets through the use of compensatory measures,” the PM said.
However, Mr. Miasnikovich expressed his confidence that Belarus would secure a 5.5% GDP growth in 2012 as initially planned by the government, if no “external factors” interfered.
