The results of Libya’s first democratic elections in 50 years will become known in a few days.
The liberal-leaning National Forces Alliance is leading in the first Libya’s free elections for several decades in a row. The early indicators confirm that the liberal coalition of 58 parities win in Tripoli and Benghazi, the two most populated hubs of the country.
NFA’s main competitor, the pro-Islamic Muslim Brotherhood’s Justice & Construction is heading election race for in small towns and regions.
The new parliament will embrace 200 members which are going to be elected from 130 parties and 2,500 individual candidates, The Daily Mail reports. It’s worth noticing only 80 places are kept for parties. The other are reserved for individual candidates.
The National Forces Alliance have already suggested the Justice & Construction cooperation and possible alliance.
The current parliamentary elections in Libya are the first democratic elections held in 50 years. The Libyan society still has clan and tribal structures and nation building and democratic transition is promising to take quite a long time. However, Libyans are very optimistic about the elections and actively participate.
