Top-10 Belarusian athletes who may win medals at summer Olympic Games that start today in London.
Today London is going to host the official opening ceremony of XXX Olympic Games. However, the Olympic football championship has already started (Belarus beat New Zealand 1:0).
Aliaksandr Lukashenka — who is not simply the President of Belarus but simultaneously the president of the National Olympic Committee of Belarus — ordered the athletes to win at least 25 medals, including five gold.
Still, it is worth mentioning that the head of Belarus’ Olympic Committee was barred from London Olympics as he has been on Europe’s ‘black list’ for several years already.

10. Belarusian football team
Belarusian football team included on this list in advance as the players led by couch Heorhi Kandracjeu participate in Olympics for the first time. Still, guys showed a good start: Belarus—New Zealand: 1:0.
9. Alim Selimov
Dagestan-born Greco-Roman style wrestler who is already twice champion of the world has been living in Belarus for more than a decade. He is in favour of Belarusian language and Belarusians are in favour of Alim’s wonderful wrestler skills.
8. Aliaksandra Hierasimienia
Swimming will bring Olympic athletes 102 medals, but Belarusians have few chances even for bronze. The only exception here is Aliaksandra Hierasimienia who became the first world’s champion from Belarus.
7. Rhythmic gymnastics
In this sport, Belarus hopes for Liubou Charkashyna, Mielicina Staniuta and the whole National team, too. Belarus never left with no medals at rhythmic gymnastics.
6. Siarhiej Martynau
The nation has already got used to 44 years’ old shooter’s permanent success. He was the winner of the Olympic Games in Sydney and Athens. Everyone hopes these Games in London will also yield him medals.
5. Nastassia Novikava
Weightlifting has always been Belarus’ strong point. However, this summer Belarusians may rely probably on Nastassia Novikava only: she is really ready to win.
Andrej Aramnau, who was another contender for gold medals, cannot participate in the Olympics due to his recent trauma. The sportsman still cannot overcome his dark times after winning gold medal at Beijing Olympics.
4. Kaciaryna Karsten
Kaciaryna Karsten, 40, is undoubtedly a sport legend. She brought the first gold medal for independent Belarus at Atlanta Olympics in 1996. Now Karsten is not as fit as before, but she can’t return without a prize.
3. Brothers Bahdanovich
Belarusian athletes brought two gold medals in kayak-paddling and canoeing. Today, two brothers: Aliaksandr and Andrej Bahdanovich have good chances to repeat process.
2. Ivan Cikhan and Nadzieja Astapchuk
Belarusians usually wait for ‘heavy’ track-and-field disciplines. In shot put among women, Nadzieja Astapchuk and Natallia Mikhnievich are unconditional favourites; Andrej Mikhnievich — among men.
Aksana Mankova is considered to be our most promising female hammer thrower and Ivan Cikhan is thought to be the best in men’s hammer throwing.

Tennis medals are always one of the most prestigious. And Belarus possesses good chances to get the highest price: we have Viktoryja Azaranka who remains world’s first racket and Maksim Mirny — one more tennis legend from Belarus.
