Athletes ask for asylum to find a better lot.
Five Olympic boxers from Cameroon said they would like to stay in the UK as they fear their authorities, BBC reports.
Last week, five boxers, a swimmer and a reserve female goalkeeper demonstratively left the Olympic Village.
The five boxers told the Olympic administration threatened them their careers would be over in case Cameroon Olympic results were not satisfactory. One of the boxers said their wish to stay in the UK is the possibility to master their sports skills.
However, some say the athletes want to stay in the UK due to economic reasons.
David Ojong, the head of the Cameroon delegation, said the athletes had visas allowing them to stay until November.
Associated Press says it is not the first case of its kind, with Sudan's embassy confirming last month that three athletes had gone missing.
Furthermore, a 15-year-old Ethiopian torch-bearer who arrived in London to participate in Olympic torch relay ran away last month.
