Wargaming.net becomes the owner of Big World.
Viktar Kisly, the co-owner and the CEO of a Belarusian online multiplayer strategy games developer Wargaming.net, is reported to purchase Australian company Big World, a game engine developer, for $45mln, ej.by reports.
Some estimations say it’s one of the largest M&A by private Belarusian companies.
According to Viktar Kisly, the acquisition makes it possible to control the technology suppliers thus making company’s development more efficient and promises the increase of business capitalization until $200mln.
Wargaming.net counts around 1,000 employees in Minsk, Kyiv and St. Petersburg.
The company’s most successful game, World of Tanks, is played by ca. 20mln permanent users and brings the revenue of ca. $8–10mln monthly. Wargaming.net is preparing the launch of two more online strategy games: World of Warplanes and World of Warships.
Vital Kisly is not the only Belarusian businessman investing in the IT.
Last year Vital Harbuzau joined the club of IT investors founding Fenox Venture Capital with $20mln capital in Silicon Valley, CA. Fenox Venture Capital had total 8 projects in the US and Japan as of early August, 2012. The businessman has registered another structure — Fenox-IT — to make IT investments in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
The head of Zubr Kapital Alieh Husajenau is also eager to conquer the IT. Alternatyunaja Lichbavaja Sietka, ruled by the fist Belarusian fund of direct investments, purchased Homiel-based company Teliesietka and Minsk-based Internet provider Solo. The acquisition took place owing to the resources of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.
A fund which is to invest into the IT in the CIS was registered at the Isle of Man by Viktar Prakapienia, the Viaden Media ex-owner. This year, the office of EXP Capital started working in Minsk.
The historic event for all Belarusian business occurred in February, 2012, when a large Belarusian soft developer EPAM Systems IPOed at the New York Stock Exchange 15% of its shares receiving $15mln. The money is partially aimed at purchasing new assets.
