Retail sales of vodka in the first seven months of 2012 totaled 6,958,000 decaliters, increasing by 7.2 percent compared with the same period of the previous year, according to the National Statistical Committee (Belstat).
Sales of alcoholic drinks, including beer, totaled 8.7 trillion rubels in the first seven months of the year, accounting for 10.6 percent of all retail trade in Belarus, Belstat said.
Sales of vodka-based liqueurs reportedly amounted to 1,145,800 decaliters, a 2.8-percent year-on-year decrease; sales of beer to 20,082,200 decaliters, a 0.8-percent increase; and sales of sparkling wines to 804,400 decaliters, a 14.8-percent increase.
Sales of brandies decreased by 31.1 percent to total 136,300 decaliters, of grape wines by 1.7 percent to total 1,771,600 decaliters, and of low-alcohol drinks by four percent to total 498,600 decaliters.
Sales of “fruit wines” decreased by 29.5 percent and totaled 6,898,600 decaliters, accounting for 22.2 percent of all sales of alcoholic drinks, down from 29.6 percent in the first seven months of 2011.
Vodka accounted for 49.8 percent of the total pure alcohol consumption, up from 43.7 percent in the first seven months of 2011, and beer for 14.4 percent, up from 13.4 percent.
