The State Border Guard Service, the State Security Department, and other Lithuanian institutions invited to the proceedings.
By the end of September there should be the results of the investigation of the Belarusian–Lithuanian border violation in respect with the “teddy bear bombing”, as the Head of the Lithuanian parliamentary Committee on National Security and Defense Arvydas Anušauskas announced following the Lithuanian Seimas proceedings. He does not rule out that Lithuanian law enforcement authorities might seek help from Sweden.
The representatives of the State Border Guard Service, of the State Security Department, and of other institutions were invited to the proceedings. “The Committee expresses hopes that the authorities have heard our opinion on what and where should be supplemented and corrected. But in this case, we haven’t reached any specific decision,” pointed out Arvydas Anušauskas during his interview with DELFI.
According to the Chairman, on July 4th Lithuanian authorities followed “our law and executed it to the letter.”
“Yes, there are some gaps in the law, and the representatives of the authorities, as we just witnessed, have acknowledged that. Still, we cannot accuse officials when they execute Lithuanian law and legal acts to the letter, while these do not provide for everything,” said the MP.
The MP also emphasized that Lithuania is entitled not to provide the legal assistance that Belarus have requested in regard with the investigation. “Lithuania hasn’t responded to some legal assistance requests. And there were more than 100 of such requests since spring. We have responded that these requests could not be satisfied in virtue of the national security and by other reasons. The exemptions like that imply bilateral agreement,’ said Arvydas Anušauskas.
The Prime Minister of Lithuanina Andrius Kubilius stated that “teddy bear invasion” was a separate initiative by the Swedish citizens. “As far as we are informed, Lithuanian authorities have nothing to do with the indecent. That is why it should be considered as a case of a separate undertaking,” said the Prime Minster.
