Anders Breivik was found sane.
Norwegian court found Anders Breivik mentally sane and sentenced him to 21 years’ imprisonment. The term of imprisonment may be extended if the court finds Anders Breivik socially dangerous, BBC reports.
Previously, Anders Breivik, 33, admitted killing 77 and injuring 240 people on July 22, 2011. Eight of them were killed by explosion in Oslo and 69 were shot to death at Utoya massacre. Most his victims were the participants of the Labour Party international youth camp.
Breivik insisted on his sanity and explained the murders by his far-right and anti-Muslim views and did not want himself to be called a “paranoid schizophrenic”.
The prosecution demanded to find Breivik insane and to sentence him for closed psychiatric care. Breivik himself said such a sentence would be “worse than death” for him.
Anders Behring Breivik listened to the sentence smiling. In the courtroom, he was sitting next to his lawyer but not behind a glass wall which was reported to be constructed to protect Breivik from the relatives of the killed people.
The trial over Breivik took 10 weeks.
