36 long-term and 270 short term OSCE observers will monitor Belarusian parliamentary elections in September.
Riccardo Migliori, president of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, plans to arrive in Belarus on September 9, according to Uladzimir Andrejchanka, chairman of the House of Representatives.
“We have recently received a letter from OSCE PA President Riccardo Migliori, who plans to arrive [in Belarus] as part of a delegation in the near future. I believe this will take place this Sunday,” Mr. Andrejchanka said at a meeting with Antonio Milososki, head of the observation mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) for Belarus' parliamentary elections, in Minsk on Thursday.
Matteo Mecacci, head of the OSCE PA's observation mission for the parliamentary elections, is also expected to arrive in Minsk soon, Mr. Andrejchanka added.
The House of Representatives chairman promised that the Belarusian authorities would do their utmost to secure open and transparent elections in compliance with domestic and international laws. Minsk hopes that international observers will offer an objective and impartial assessment of the elections, he said.
Mr. Milososki announced that the 36 long-term observers of the OSCE/ODIHR mission were divided into 18 teams working in different areas across Belarus. They will be later joined by 270 short-term OSCE observers, he said.
