All independent election observers detained today in a hostel in Minsk were released, Euroradio says.
“The riot police broke in, all were ordered to switch off cell phones and computers,” Nastassia Matchanka says.
She also notes that not only observers, but also several other guests and two plumbing specialists were captured by the riot police.
All the 25 persons were released around three hours later, after they had been fingerprinted.
The final conference within the project titled “Election Monitoring: Theory and Practice” is going to take place in Vilnius, Lithuania, on September 23.
As it was reported previously, Belarusian human rights activists report of 20 independent observers grabbed by riot police near a hostel in Minsk. The all were monitoring the parliamentary elections on September 23 within the frameworks of the campaign titled “Election Monitoring: Theory and Practice.” Now the activists are being taken to Centralny district police station.
