Belarusian Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makiej partook in the first meeting of the ministers of the Forum of Small States (FOSS) held within the frameworks of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly in New York. The FOSS unites 105 member countries with the population below 10mln, Foreign Ministry informs.
Belarusian Foreign Minister highlighted that the appearance of the multiple international policy makers — with small state among them — contribute to establishment of multipolar world.
During the meeting on October 1 Uladzimir Makiej had a «brief conversation» with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, BelaPAN says.
According to the press office, Mr. Makey also had meetings with the foreign ministers of Gabon, the Gambia, Luxembourg, Singapore and Tuvalu, as well as with Martti Ahtisaari, Finland’s president between 1994 and 2004 and the 2008 Nobel Peace Prize winner who is a United Nations diplomat and mediator.
The press office did not disclose the details of the meetings.
Also on Monday, Mr. Makey delivered a statement at the general debate of the UN General Assembly’s session and took part in a high-level meeting on «Fifteen Years of the Chemical Weapons Convention: Celebrating Success. Committing to the Future.»
