Aliaksandr Lukashenka and Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez had a telephone conversation late on October 8.
The Belarusian leader congratulated Chavez on his reelection to a third six-year term as Venezuelan president in Sunday`s vote, according to the presidential press office.
Chavez reportedly responded by saying, “I dedicate this victory to you and our Belarusian people.”
The Venezuelan leader expressed gratitude to Mr. Lukashenka and the Belarusian people for their “priceless assistance to Venezuela`s social and economic development, the construction of large enterprises and infrastructure, constant political support,” the press office said.
Lukashenka and Chavez agreed to hold a meeting soon to discuss further bilateral actions in “various spheres of cooperation.”
