Portraits of Marx and Lenin Removed from Pyongyang’s Central Square

The authorities of North Korea have removed the portraits of Karl Marx and Vladimir Lenin from Pyongyang’s central square. Such a step might be linked to changes of North Korea political priorities, The Daily Telegraph says.

The giant portraits of communism ideologists were situated in the square named after Kim Il-sung for decades despite the Juche Idea was set the state ideology instead of Marxism-Leninism.

The Telegraph specifies that the portraits were removed last summer with no evident reason. The move was done backgrounded by Kim Jong-un’s careful attempts to make North Korea more open and reduce the power of military elites.
