Another top official leaves for Russian business after the dismissal.
RussNeft, a Russian oil company, has been given former Belarusian Foreign Minister Siarhiej Martynau the position of special representative to Belarus.
According to the company’s press office, the responsibilities of the job include increasing mutually beneficial cooperation between RussNeft and Belarus, and participating in the development and implementation of promising gas and gas projects in both Belarus and other countries.
“The appointment of Siarhiej Martynau, who has great experience of diplomatic work and enjoys a significant influence in political and business circles, emphasizes the strategic interest of RussNeft in developing external economic relations, expanding the geography of its operations and strengthening the company’s position in international oil markets,” the press office said.
Aliaksandr Lukashenka dismissed Martynau from the position of foreign minister on August 20 and simultaneously awarded him the Third-Class Order of the Fatherland in recognition of his “years-long work in the field of foreign policy and productive efforts to develop international relations and strengthen the reputation of the Republic of Belarus in the international arena.”
Siarhiej Martynau had served as foreign minister since March 2003 and was dismissed “in connection with his transfer to another job.”
Established in September 2002, ОАО NK RussNeft currently ranks 10th among Russia’s oil companies in terms of oil production, accounting to for every 30th ton of oil produced in Russia. Owned by Mikhail Gutseriev and headquartered in Moscow, the company operates 24 oil production units, annually producing 13.6 million tons of oil and 2,150 million cubic meters of gas.
