As Nasha Niva learned from the organs and tissues transplantation centre, the condition of ex-Mossad head Meir Dagan who had a liver transplant in Belarus is very bad.
Dagan remains in an intensive care unit. He currently has elevated temperature (37.1°C). The liver transplantation was a success, but Meir Dagan did not escape the complications.
As it is reported, the liver transplantation was performed last week, but the case became widely-discussed after Belarusian president Aliaksandr Lukashenka mentioned at press-conference with Russian regional journalists that a former Mossad director was operated in Belarus.
“I don’t want to name the last example, but it will probably be a widely-known one,”Lukashenka noted while he told about the success of Belarusian transplantology.
“The former head of the Mossad wasn’t operated anywhere — he needed a liver transplantation. Ten days have passed since the cooperation. Only Belarus agreed to perform the surgery. America refused, Germany refused, Sweden refused. But they all recommended Alieh Rumo [the chief of Belarusian centre of transplantation of organs and tissues — NN].”
Lukashenka did not specify who of the ex-Mossad directors exactly was operated in Belarus. It is known that seven out of ten ex-Mossad heads are still alive. Hover, the words by Lukashenka begot active speculations on the identity of the V.I.P. patient of Belarusian organs and tissues transplantation centre.
Israeli mass media named him to be Dagan.
“Dagan’s illness, cancer, was known for a couple of months to a small group of confidants and colleagues and me, but it was decided for reasons of not invading his privacy not to report it,”veteran Israeli intelligence correspondent Yossi Melman told Al-Monitor.
Two months ago, Dagan went to Sloane Kettering hospital in New York for medical checks hoping to find a compatible organ, but in vain, Melman said.
“He returned to Israel and his health was deteriorating.”
Accepting the fact Dagan underwent the liver transplantation in Minsk, Israel denies Lukashenka’s words about America, Sweden and Germany refused to operate Dagan. However, family members denied this, saying that they had not attempted to send Dagan to Sweden, and that the German and U.S. hospitals would require a long wait for a liver, one that the 67-year old Dagan might not survive, Israel National News says.
However, Belarusian side agreed to operate Dagan.
“I said: tell the general we do not give any guarantees, as any medic, but we will do everything in accordance with the cutting-edge technologies. If you want, bring a counsellor with you,”Lukashenka told the journalist at the press-conference.
“Some expert arrived. He watched how everything is done here and said in the end: ‘Guys, you don’t need me here.’”
Meir Dagan was operated in Belarusian organs and tissues tranplantology centre which is one of Europe’s best.
Moreover, Belarusian transplantation legislation is one of world’s most loyal: the organs of any person could be used for transplantation after person’s death in case he or she haven’t previously forbidden to do so signing by a legal notice.
