It’s the political cat fight everyone has been waiting for – David Cameron versus George Osborne.
But the only claws out in this Downing Street showdown belonged to the Prime Minister and Chancellor’s pet cats.
Cameron’s cat Larry came to blows with Osborne’s tabby Freya after the furry pair crossed paths outside Number 10 this morning.
But it was the PM’s puss that came off worse, cowered back to his master’s office with his tail between his legs after Freya swung a paw and hit him in the throat.
Larry, a rescue cat from Battersea Dogs Home, was later seen sulking in the window of Number 10 while Freya proudly roamed the street.
The cat fight comes after five-year-old Larry was ousted as chief mouse catcher in favour of feisty Freya.
Lazy Larry did not catch his first mouse for nine weeks and the PM even resorted to throwing cutlery at one rodent.
The final straw last month when Mr Cameron caught Larry cat-napping on his chair in his No.10 study as another mouse scurried across the room.
The sleepy feline opened one eye but refused to budge to chase the rodent and so Freya was installed as the new Mouser of State.
Freya was recently reunited with the Osbornes after disappearing from the family home in Notting Hill when she was just a few months old.
She was found living as a stray a few streets away and was reunited with the family after a vet found a microchip beneath her skin with their phone number.
