Belarusian human rights defender Alies Bialiacki was imposed some restrictions on parcels with medicines, his wife Natallia Pinchuk says.
According to Ms. Pinchuk, she sent the required medicines to Alies Bialiacki who is currently imprisoned in Babrujsk, BelaPAN says.
The list of medicines was approved by the medical department of the penal colony. However, Natallia Pinchuk found out that the maximum allowed parcel weight was limited to one kilogramme. But in accordance with the postal requirements, the maximum parcel weight may be up to two kilogrammes.
Natallia Pinchuk says no restrictions were imposed on other prisoners, as their associates inform.
The penal colony administration did not somehow comment on the incident.
However, Ms. Pinchuk did not manage to send her husband even the parcel of limited weight: the parcel was delivered back.
“The notice on the envelope says some sending terms were violated. But there were no mistakes: my husband has the right to receive the parcel. Now he is in the penal colony with no medicines and vitamins,” she says.
“I have no idea about the reason of this, but Alies was turned into a malicious violator of prison rules, and the pressure on him increases. It seems the authorities do anything possible to complicate his life in prison.”
Natallia Pinchuk knows nothing about whether her husband was forced to appeal for a pardon or not.
“Alies did not write about this. However, considering the actions of the prison administrations towards other political prisoners, I think he was offered. Alies denied it and the pressure grew stronger.”
