Ethiopia and Belarus signed in Moscow on Friday (October 19) a protocol of cooperation to further bolster bilateral ties. Belarus Ambassador to Russia, Ihar Pietryshenka, and Ethiopian Ambassador to Russia, Kasahun Dender Melese signed the protocol on behalf of their governments.
Ambassador Ihar Pietryshenka noted the protocol was the first such document signed by Belarus and Ethiopia. He said: “The signing of the protocol is an important milestone that lays down a foundation to step up cooperation in all areas, and more importantly in economy.”
He added that Belarus and Ethiopia already cooperate on a landmark project: an assembly enterprise of Minsk Tractor Works established in 1984. Ambassador Pietryshenka also said that the possibility of training research personnel and students in Belarus was under discussion. Ambassador Kasahun said that political cooperation between the two countries had a long history.
“We hope that in the near future in addition to this protocol of cooperation, we will sign agreements on cooperation in economy, science, education and other areas.”
Ambassador Kasahun said that with 70 per cent of the country's population employed in agriculture: “Our task is to raise the labor productivity in this sector; products by Minsk Tractor Works suit the task because they boast good quality, are available at competitive prices, and we are fully satisfied with them.”
