Makej on Recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia: Our Position Not Changed, but Things Change
Belarus’ view on recognizing the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia has not changed, Belarusian Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makiej told media on October 30.
“Life goes on, things are changing. Therefore, some views may change as well,” said the Belarusian Foreign Minister. “In the general context we discussed Belarusian-Georgian relations and Russian-Georgian relations, interaction in the Collective Security Treaty Organization during our bilateral meeting [with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov]”.
“I cannot say that our view has changed now. But life goes on and we will analyze the situation in the post-Soviet space and the international scene, we will make decisions based, of course, on our national interests,” stressed the Belarusian Foreign Minister.
