Chairperson of the Christian Conservative Party of the Belarusian Popular Front Zianon Pazniak in his interview with InterPolitTV severely criticised the Belarusian opposition and claimed that it was both financed and controlled by the West and thus has no own values and goals.
Belarusian state-owned mass media were glad to use the quotation from the 20-minute interview full of criticism of current opposition. After this, Zianon Pazniak decided to explain his stance to RFE/RL, as BelaPAN says.
“The things they quote within their context — that opposition is not independent, that it is controlled by western money — they all are right. But this opposition is also a structure of the regime. This opposition has implemented all the projects of this regime. And the last project was 2010 when <...> they turned the election campaign into provocation and allowed the regime to retain power and also to strangle all [opposition – NN],” Zianon Pazniak said.
“They were given money, and I can tell the precise figures ‘Tell the Truth!’ received $4.5mln.
“This information is correct, this was voiced by them at questionings in the KGB.”
Pazniak also told that he receives data from the KGB sources.
According to Zianon Pazniak, the leader of opposition “didn’t give the people of Belarus anything except damage,” he said.
“And the funds they received from the West were wasted. And now it turns out that the West seeks for the contacts directly with Lukashenka but not them [the opposition] to execute its policy. This is the outcome of these bankrupts! So let them not comment, but make conclusions.
“I say once again: this opposition which went to the wall spending the money of West, which made so much bad to Belarusian people, it must get out of the politics, each and everyone, never return there!”
