Latvia is interested in increasing the capacity of the Belarusian-Latvian rail service and is ready to co-invest in this, said the press office of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry.
The issue was the focus of a recent meeting between Aliaksandr Hierasimienka, the Belarusian ambassador to Latvia, and Ugis Magonis, chairman of the board of SJSC Latvijas dzelzcels (Latvia’s national rail operator), the press office reported.
According to the press office, Hierasimienka and Magonis also discussed the results and promising areas of cooperation between the two countries in the sphere of transportation. They noted an upward trend in the transit of Belarusian goods through Latvia and the transshipment of Belarusian exports in Latvian seaports in 2012.
Also under discussion were issues relating to a Belarusian fair and a Belarusian-Lithuanian business forum that are expected to be held in Riga between December 6 and December 9, the press office said.
