Driver involved in an accident at 3 km/h. His license was revoked for six months and he was fined 10 basic units

A reader told Onliner about an unfortunate incident that happened to him on December 15 in Brest. The driver was exiting a courtyard through a house arch and across a sidewalk.

The speed was low, but visibility was practically non-existent: a high fence was installed to the left of the arch, completely obscuring that part of the sidewalk from the driver and simultaneously preventing pedestrians from seeing what was happening behind it.

— I was involved in a rather strange accident, — says the interlocutor. — As a driver exiting a courtyard across a sidewalk, I am, of course, at fault. But I believe I had no way to avoid this accident.

There was a collision with a young man on a scooter. This was captured on a dashcam recording.

— At the moment of impact, my speed was 3 km/h, — the reader states. — The scooter's speed was much higher. Regarding the consequences: the guy is fine, he even wrote a statement saying that he holds no ill will towards me and asks not to impose large fines on me. The scooter is fine. The car's front bumper cracked, the wheel well liner was completely shattered, the arch trim cracked, and the headlight was scratched.

A hearing was scheduled at the traffic police (DAI), to which the driver was summoned.

— It was clear that I was at fault no matter what, — he says. — I had three petitions: from the guy on the scooter, from myself, and from my director. They stated that my job and earnings directly depend on my ability to drive a car, that I have young children, and that my wife might divorce me. Of course, at such hearings, the traffic police look at the driver's service record.

— Throughout my driving experience, I accumulated 97 traffic violations. 20 of them were this year. But the "cherry on top": these are not my violations. My son got his license and drove my car, collecting "letters of happiness," — says the interlocutor.

The traffic police made a decision.

— My license was revoked for six months, and I was fined 10 basic units (a basic unit is 42 rubles), — the reader reported. According to him, he will not dispute the decision.
